The record-breaking IPO of SpaceX was no accident. It marked a pivotal moment, signaling that the next wave of groundbreaking public offerings will not come from traditional SaaS companies or consumer apps. Instead, they will emerge from the burgeoning field of civilization technology — a sector dedicated to building and maintaining the essential structures and systems that allow civilization to endure amidst a rapidly changing and uncertain world. As the global population expands and technological advances accelerate, civilization technology companies are poised to attract significant investment and capture substantial market share in the years to come.

What Is Civilization Technology?

Civilization technology encompasses businesses that sustain and advance the foundational infrastructure necessary for civilization’s survival and growth worldwide. These companies work across a diverse range of sectors including energy and nuclear solutions (such as small modular reactors and fusion power), AI infrastructure and computing (data centers, semiconductor chips, and power systems for AI workloads), advanced manufacturing and reshoring, defense and national security, space exploration and aerospace, robotics and industrial automation, supply chain resilience, biosecurity and synthetic biology, as well as water management and agriculture.

At its core, civilization technology focuses on safeguarding the built environment — cities, transportation networks, communication systems — as well as the physical environment that supports these structures. In essence, these companies protect the fundamental resources humans require for survival, from clean water and food to energy and security.

Prominent companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Tesla stand out as exemplars in this space, but the field also includes a vast spectrum of businesses ranging from innovative startups to established industrial giants.

Who to Watch in Civilization Technology

Defense and Autonomy. Anduril is a key player here, with its revenue nearly doubling to approximately $2.2 billion in 2025. It is widely regarded as the sector’s most promising IPO candidate. Another noteworthy company is Saronic, an autonomous naval shipbuilder that recently raised $1.75 billion at a $9.25 billion valuation, more than doubling its worth within a year.

Fusion and Energy. The fusion energy industry is rapidly gaining traction in public markets. TAE Technologies is going public via a $6 billion merger with Trump Media, while General Fusion and Helion are advancing aggressively — Helion recently secured $465 million at a $15.5 billion valuation, aiming to build Microsoft’s next-generation power plant.

Biotech and Biosecurity. Colossal Biosciences is a standout, becoming Texas’s first decacorn at a $10.3 billion valuation after raising $400 million in its Series C round. Known for its pioneering de-extinction efforts, Colossal’s broader platform spans genetic engineering, artificial wombs, and cloning technologies, with applications in conservation, agriculture, and human health. Additionally, companies focused on pathogen surveillance, rapid vaccine development, and synthetic biology infrastructure form a critical dark horse sector within biosecurity.

AI Infrastructure and Compute. Anthropic, which filed for IPO on June 1st, and Databricks, expected to file soon, are leading names. However, an important but less visible subset includes data center builders, grid infrastructure firms, and power delivery companies that provide indispensable services regardless of which AI lab dominates the market.

Space. SpaceX’s landmark IPO reset the valuation ceiling for space companies. Firefly Aerospace, already public after an $868 million IPO, is expanding from launch services into in-orbit servicing with its Elytra tug. Stoke Space, with an $860 million Series D extension, is innovating toward full, rapid reuse of both rocket stages. Satellite-servicing startups like Starfish Space and Orbit Fab are transforming orbital assets into a serviceable infrastructure network.

What Comes Next?

For the past two decades, technology development has often focused on optimizing user experience and consumer applications. However, as technological capabilities mature, the frontier has shifted to solving complex, large-scale challenges — building power plants, reusable rockets, autonomous ships, nuclear reactors, and advanced biotechnologies. The companies that address these load-bearing problems of civilization will not only support societal resilience but will also become foundational pillars of the global economy.

Investors and entrepreneurs looking ahead should pay close attention to this evolving landscape. Civilization technology is not just a buzzword; it represents an urgent and expansive opportunity to shape the future of humanity’s infrastructure and security.
