The Biggest ChatGPT Update Yet Gives Entrepreneurs 7 Ways to Grow Fast

How OpenAI’s Always-On AI Agents Are Transforming Solo Entrepreneurship

OpenAI’s introduction of “dots,” always-on AI agents integrated directly within ChatGPT, represents a significant evolution for solo founders and entrepreneurs navigating the limits of chat-based AI tools. Many business owners already rely on ChatGPT to draft emails, summarize meetings, or brainstorm ideas. However, the repetitive tasks of research, follow-up, and verification often still fall squarely on their shoulders. Simply adding more tools doesn’t relieve this burden if the founder remains the central point of control and decision-making.

These new AI agents, or dots, offer a way to delegate recurring assignments with ongoing context and clear boundaries. Equipped with their own cloud computation resources, access to connected applications, and saved instructions, dots can monitor relevant changes and continue authorized work across conversations. Entrepreneurs can even engage with their dot through voice calls, discussing assignments in real time before letting the agent carry on independently. This shift raises an important question: which tasks deserve this level of continuous AI attention first?

Starting Small With High-Impact Tasks

In Chapter 4 of my book, The Wolf Is at The Door, I encourage readers to identify cognitive tasks that can be automated to reduce workload without risking the integrity of their business. This approach serves as an effective filter for selecting assignments for dots: choose recurring tasks that frequently demand your attention, clearly define the desired outcomes, and determine which decisions you must personally oversee.

Transitioning from occasional AI prompts to integrating AI agents as part of core business operations remains a challenge for many. According to QuickBooks’ July 2026 Small-Business Survey, only 18% of businesses using AI consider it central to their processes. For the majority, the hurdle lies in establishing repeatable workflows that align with their unique business needs.

Seven Practical Business Applications for AI Agents

Dots can be leveraged for a variety of practical business tasks that go beyond one-off queries. For example, a dot could compare competitor offers and highlight customer questions ahead of a new product launch. It might transform video transcripts into social media drafts, track launch materials affected by schedule changes, or prepare updated sales proposals while flagging unanswered questions. Another valuable use is cross-checking completed work against billing records to identify potentially missed invoices.

Importantly, these are tasks that entrepreneurs can inspect, correct, and refine over time, rather than transient interactions lost in chat history. Researching an opportunity doesn’t grant permission to pursue it, and drafting a proposal doesn’t equate to approval. The AI agent’s role is to handle routine work while preserving critical decision-making authority for the founder.

Building Trust and Efficiency With Your AI Agent

The key to harnessing the power of dots is to start with a single recurring responsibility. Provide your AI agent with the necessary information and clear instructions, then request results that you can verify. This initial project will offer more insight and value than merely collecting another list of AI tools.

For entrepreneurs seeking to build their own AI-powered support, a free resource is available: the AI Marketing Team Setup. This toolkit includes a team map, role instructions, and a starter skill designed to help you create your first marketing agent. Additionally, it offers a free chapter of my book, The Wolf Is at The Door: How to Survive and Thrive in an AI-Driven World, providing guidance on adapting your business as AI reshapes how we work and grow enterprises.

For entrepreneurs striving to scale efficiently and maintain control over critical decisions, OpenAI’s dots represent a promising step forward — turning AI from a reactive tool into an active collaborator.
