Since its inception in April, Prentis has focused on training AI models that understand how office workers interact with documents and systems during daily workflows. Their mission is clear: to develop AI agents capable of autonomously controlling computers and streamlining repetitive tasks that traditionally require manual intervention.
Targeted Automation for Industry-Specific Workflows
Prentis aims to deliver highly customized AI agents tailored to specific customer needs. Examples include automating the processing of insurance claims or managing customs duty refund exceptions—tasks that typically involve tedious manual searches through paperwork. By automating these processes, Prentis endeavors to significantly reduce the time and human effort required.
Industry traction for the startup is already substantial. Insider reports reveal that Prentis has secured contracts valued at up to $50 million with clients spanning healthcare management, manufacturing, and retail sectors. Investor materials obtained by TechCrunch forecast an estimated $75 million annualized run rate by Q3 of this year. It is important to note, however, these figures represent projected value based on a contracted fee structure tied to 20% of realized savings, and are contingent upon performance and contract finalization.
Technological Edge: Hive-32B Model
Prentis claims its flagship model, Hive-32B, outperforms leading competitors such as OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.6 on specialized benchmarks. These include WindowsAgentArena, which evaluates end-to-end task completion in real Windows environments, and ScreenSpot-v2, a test of a model’s capability to identify correct on-screen controls. According to Prentis, Hive-32B achieves these results while operating at roughly one-tenth the cost per task compared to frontier AI APIs, making it more economically viable for everyday office deployment.

Competitive Landscape and Market Potential
Prentis is betting on the automation of everyday office tasks becoming the leading AI application, potentially surpassing coding-related use cases. However, the market is crowded with contenders. Established players like Anthropic, OpenAI, and newer entrants such as Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab are also developing AI agents designed for computer interaction. Notably, Anthropic acquired Seattle-based Vercept earlier this year, integrating its founders and halting the original product to consolidate talent in this space.
With the AI agent market heating up, Prentis faces stiff competition but distinguishes itself through its tailored approach and cost-efficient models.
Leadership and Vision Behind Prentis
Ritankar Das, the CEO of Prentis, brings a formidable blend of academic excellence and entrepreneurial experience to the venture. At 31, Das was UC Berkeley’s youngest University Medalist in over a century, graduating at 18 with a double major in bioengineering and chemical biology, followed by a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Oxford. He later founded Titan, a holding company that builds and operates AI ventures, after leaving an AI PhD program at Cambridge.
Titan operates on a unique model reminiscent of Berkshire Hathaway, focusing on self-funded growth through successful exits rather than relying on external investors. Other Titan ventures include Tala Health, an AI-driven virtual care provider that raised $100 million in seed funding last year, and Forta Health, an autism care startup that secured $55 million in Series A funding in 2024. Additionally, Titan’s disease prediction company Dascena was acquired by CirrusDx in 2022.
Notable Co-Founders and Team Composition
Prentis benefits from the involvement of two other prominent co-founders: Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn’s co-founder and a Greylock partner, and Mark Pincus, founder of Zynga and head of the investment firm Reinvent Capital. Hoffman recently stepped down from Microsoft’s board to focus on founder roles at startups like Manas AI, an AI drug-discovery company. He was also an early investor in OpenAI and co-founded Inflection AI before much of that team was absorbed by Microsoft in 2024. Pincus published his memoir, Life at the Speed of Play, last month and continues to play an advisory role in Reinvent Capital.
Prentis has already grown its workforce to over 25 employees, including researchers with backgrounds at OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Meta, Tencent, and Alibaba, showcasing a high level of expertise and commitment to advancing AI in practical applications.
